Projects Selected for 2024

Mexico - Oaxaca IV Wind Power Project

Mexico - Oaxaca IV Wind Power Project

These three wind farms in Oaxaca, Mexico, each generate 102 MW of clean electricity from renewable resources using 68 wind turbines of 1.5 MW capacity each.

The projects generate an estimated 400,000-425,000 MWh per annum each, avoiding 230,000-250,000 tonnes of emissions reductions annually by replacing electricity that would have been produced by a mainly fossil fuel-based generation mix.

Brazil - Recreio Land Fill Gas

Brazil - Recreio Land Fill Gas

The project activity reduces the emission of greenhouse gases through the use of renewable sources of energy and making use of clean technology, avoiding the generation of electricity via sources of fossils fuels with consequent emissions of CO2, that would be generated if the project did not exist.

Kenya - Household & Commercial Biogas Plants

Kenya - Household & Commercial Biogas Plants

This project will transform organic waste into renewable biogas to meet Kenya’s rural energy demand. The project involves installing different-scaled biogas plants for households and commercial purposes in Kenya’s rural areas. These biogas plants will allow households, slaughterhouses, and small and medium-sized farms to transform their organic waste into renewable biogas to accommodate their energy demand and drive regional sustainable development.

In 2024, AerCap contributed to reducing its direct (Scope 1) and indirect emissions (Scope 2 and Scope 3 business travel) GHG emissions by purchasing carbon credits equivalent to 100% of our unavoidable direct and indirect emissions for the year 2023, up from ~80% the prior year. This amounted to ~12,300 tCO2, sourced exclusively from developing countries in the Global South.

In 2021, AerCap set a target to achieve 100% emission reduction of its Scope 1, 2, and Scope 3 business travel by 2024, this was successfully achieved in 2024.
